The CIB analytical desks are led by a Executive Team of officers, who, in addition to their analytical tasks, are in charge of steering the organization. Current and former CIB officers are listed below.


HAUF JacksonEXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Jackson Hauf is a junior from Maryland. At Coastal Carolina University he is double-majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies, as well as in Language and Intercultural Studies. His academic focus is the German and Russian languages. In the CIB he has headed the organization’s Special Topics and Russia Desks. Jackson’s analytical research concerns the bilateral relations between Russia and the United States.


STORZIERI Rick 2CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER
Derrick Storzieri is from Bluffton, South Carolina. He is a senior Intelligence and National Security Studies major and an Islamic Studies minor. At the CIB he heads the North America Desk. Derrick specializes in relations between the United States and Mexico, with reference to illicit narcotics trafficking, immigration, and other issues of bilateral concern to the two countries. He was featured on the 5th episode of the CIB Intelligence Report.


CRUMPTON HannahRECRUITMENT OFFICER
Hannah Crumpton is from Greenville, South Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minoring in Psychology and Spanish. In addition to her executive position, Hannah has served in the CIB’s Special Topics desk, where she focused on COVID-19 and its effects on Food Security. Hannah is also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research group (CLEAR) and serves as Chief of their Mass Shooter Response Exercise Team.


DANZEK PiperFINANCE OFFICER
Piper Danzek is from Simi Valley, California. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minoring in Geographic Information Systems. Before her executive position, Piper served as Deputy Head of the CIB’s Middle East Desk, where, focusing on Hamas and the effects of COVID-19 on relations between Israel and Palestine. Piper is also the treasurer for the Women In Intelligence and National Security Club at CCU.


SHERWOOD SophieCOUNTERINTELLIGENCE OFFICER
Sophie Sherwood is from Clarksville, Virginia. She is double-majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and Chemistry. Sophie heads the Special Topics desk and has most recently focused her research on the growth of the global renewable energy sector. She is also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research group (CLEAR), and Coastal Carolina’s First-Generation College Student Advisory Council.


VIATOR JakeEXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER
Jake Viator is from Gainesville, Virginia. He is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minoring in Geographic Information Systems. Before assuming his role as the External Relations Officer, Jake served in in the CIB’s Middle East Desk, where he focused his research on the current and future status of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq. Jake was also featured on the fourth episode of the CIB COVID-19 Intelligence Project.


HANCOCK ColeCOMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Cole Hancock is from Delran, New Jersey. He is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies, and minoring in Criminology. He has been a member of the South America desk for the past two years, specializing in paramilitary and rebel groups that operate in the region, with a focus on the National Liberation Army (ELN) in Colombia. He also examines how rebel groups in South America affect relations between Latin American countries. Cole is also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research Group (CLEAR).


LANKFORD Ana Maria

RECORDS OFFICER
Ana Maria Lankford is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minoring in Criminology and Spanish. Soon after joining the CIB, she focused heavily on the organization’s COVID-19 Intelligence Project, contributing as the project’s Intelligence Community Editor. Ana Maria also serves as the Treasurer for Coastal Carolina University’s National Security Club.


FITSANAKIS JosephFACULTY MENTOR
Dr. Joseph Fitsanakis is Associate Professor of Politics in the Intelligence and National Security Studies program at Coastal Carolina University. Prior to his current role, he was Director of the Security and Intelligence Studies program at King University. Dr. Fitsanakis specializes in communications interception, human intelligence collection and intelligence tradecraft, and has been teaching courses on these topics for over a decade.

MOLANO Fabio 2Executive Director (2018-2020)
Fabio Molano
is from Lexington, South Carolina. He majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minored in Psychology and History. At the CIB he specialized in American-Chinese relations and lead the organization’s Asia Desk. Fabio was also a member of the National Security Club, Chinese Club and the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research group (CLEAR). He served as CIB director from 2018 to 2020.

 

CLARK Alex 2Chief Operations Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Alex Clark is from Long Island, New York. He studied Intelligence and National Security. In addition to serving as CIB Chief Operations Officer, he headed the organization’s Russia Desk. Alex specialized in the Russian Armed Forces and conducted extensive research on the state and future prospects of the Russian Armed Forces posture and strategy. His work was published in the European Intelligence Academy’s Intelligence Review journal in the spring of 2019.

 

PRESNELL Kaitlin

Finance Officer (2019-2020)
Kaitlin Presnell is from Johnson City, Tennessee. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minored in Religious Studies and Islamic Studies. She lead the organization’s Africa Desk. She was also a member of the CIB’s Middle East Desk, where she focused her research on the civil war in Yemen. Kaitlin also served as Vice President of Women in Intelligence and National Security and President of Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue Club.

 

GOMPPER Mike 2Communications Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Michael Gompper is from Beaufort, South Carolina. He majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in History and Criminology at Coastal Carolina University. He was a member of the CIB since his freshman semester in the fall of 2016, and eventually headed the organization’s Europe Desk. He conducted extensive research on relations between Britain, Ireland and the European Union, with particular reference to the ongoing Brexit process.

 

CAIN Joseph 2Records Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Joseph Cain , from Springfield, KY, majored in Intelligence and National Security studies and minored in Pre-law and Spanish. He specialized in US-Cuba relations. In addition to his executive duties at the CIB, Joseph headed the organization’s Latin America Desk. He was also a member of the Chanticleer Law Enforcement Analysis Report (CLEAR) and the National Security Club.

Shannon Brophy is from Anderson, South Carolina. She majored in Language and Intercultural Studies. Shannon was been a member of the CIB since her freshman semester in the fall of 2016, and headed the organization’s Middle East Desk. In fall 2018, Shannon was awarded an internship with the United States Department of State’s Regional Security Office at the US Embassy in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

 

MORINI Marissa

Projects Officer (2019)
Marissa Morini is from Lexington, South Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. In addition to her role as the CIB’s Projects Officer, she heads the organization’s Middle East Desk, of which she has been a member for several semesters. In her research, Marissa focuses on the Syrian Kurds and their ongoing campaign for autonomy and/or independence.

 

SCHOLAR Madison

Honorary Executive Officer and other positions (2018-2019)
Madison Scholar is from Marietta, Georgia. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies. Until December 2018, she headed the CIB’s North America Desk, having conducted extensive research on the drug trade in Mexico. In the spring 2019 semester she worked as a Research Fellow for the Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, where she conducted research on the security effects of marijuana legalization.

 

KILGORE Connor

 

Executive Director and other positions (2016-2018)
CONNOR KILGORE, from Leesport, PA, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Global Studies. He headed the CIB’s Asia Desk with a focus on energy, was a Solar Ambassador and a member of WINS and the National Security Club.

KATELYN MONTRIEF, from Fredericksburg, VA, is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies with a double minor in History and Criminology. At CIB she focused on the Middle East and was a member of WINS and the National Security Club.

 

NOWLIN Madison

 

Chief Financial Officer and other positions (2016-2018)
MADISON NOWLIN is from Concord, NC. At the CIB she specialized in Islamist radicalism in Russia and headed the Russia Desk. Madison was also Chairwoman of the National Security Club.

ALLISON REILLY, from Columbia, SC, is majoring in Intelligence and National Security and Political Science. She headed the CIB’s Africa Desk and served as Vice President of WINS and as Chairwoman of the Finance Committee for the CCU SGA.

ERIC WINTER is a sophomore from Greenville, SC, majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and Information Systems at Coastal Carolina University. He focused on cyber security and has also carried out research on Southeast Asia.

BELLE GRIGGS, from Wallace, SC, is double-majoring in Intelligence and National Security and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. She headed the CIB’s Americas desk where she focused on Colombia.

KAYLA “ACE” CHAMBERS, from Chapin, SC, majored in Psychology. She headed the CIB’s Europe Desk, where she focused on Western Europe and the Baltic region. She has also authored and published research on French politics.

 

MALLON Casey

CASEY MALLON, from Myrtle Beach, SC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies (with a Middle East focus) and Politics, and minored in Statistics, Religious Studies, and Geographical Information Systems. At CIB she focused on Southeast Asia.

 

GUTBERLET Blake

 

Executive Director (2016-2017)
BLAKE GUTBERLET, from Hickory, NC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Psychology. He focused on interrogation techniques, military weapons capabilities, and counterinsurgency with an emphasis on Boko Haram.

 

LEE Jeremy

 

Chief Operations Officer (2016-2017)
JEREMY LEE, from Geneva, IL, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies at CCU. He headed the CIB’s Eastern/Southern Europe Desk, where he specialized in the European Union with an emphasis on European security issues.

 

JAMES Victoria

 

Communications Officer (2016-2017)
VICTORIA JAMES, from Biloxi, MS, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies. She headed the CIB’s Middle East Section, where she focused on WMD and CBRN proliferation. She also served as President of Women in Intelligence and National Security.

 

JONES Michael

MICHAEL JONES, from North Charleston, SC, majored in History and minored in Intelligence and Security Studies and Military Science. He headed the CIB’s Asia/Eurasia Section, where he studied Central Asia and international terrorism.

 

EVANS Diana

 

Communications Officer (2015-2016)
DIANA EVANS, from Cape Cod, MA, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Geographic Information Systems. Her interests include terrorism, espionage, geospatial intelligence and domestic terrorism.

RYAN HAAG, from Frederick, MD, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies with a minor in Geographic Information Systems. His interests include human intelligence, geospatial intelligence, and psychological operations.

JOSHUA MGRDECHIAN, from Myrtle Beach, SC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. His interests lie in law enforcement, surveillance and security practices. He specializes in border security.
