The CIB analytical desks are led by a Executive Team of officers, who, in addition to their analytical tasks, are in charge of steering the organization. Current and former CIB officers are listed below.


MOLANO Fabio

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Fabio Molano is from Lexington, South Carolina. He is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minoring in Psychology and History at Coastal Carolina University. At the CIB he specializes in American-Chinese relations and leads the organization’s Asia Desk. Fabio is also a member of the National Security Club and the Chinese Club.


CLARK Alex

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER
Alex Clark is from Long Island, New York. He studies Intelligence and National Security at Coastal Carolina University. In addition to serving as CIB Chief Operations Officer, he heads the organization’s Russia Desk. Alex specializes in the Russian Armed Forces and has conducted extensive research on the current state and future prospects of the Russian Armed Forces posture and strategy


STORZIERI RickCHIEF FINANCE OFFICER
Derrick Storzieri is from Bluffton, South Carolina. He is a sophomore Intelligence and National Security Studies major. He has been a member of the CIB’s Middle East Desk and is currently heading the organization’s North America Desk. He hopes to bring his knowledge of Middle Eastern culture and politics to aid in his research of domestic security in the United States.


QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER
JOSEPH CAIN is from Springfield, Kentucky. He is an Intelligence and National Security Studies major and Pre-Law and Spanish minor. He specializes in US-Cuba relations and has conducted extensive research on the topic. At the CIB he heads the organization’s Central and South America Desk. Joseph is also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis and Research group and the National Security Club.


BROSSARD Kyle

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Kyle Brossard is from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He is a senior Intelligence and National Security Studies major, having transferred to Coastal in 2017 after attending the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama. At the CIB he heads the Organization’s Special/ Transnational Topics Desk. Kyle’s professional ambition is to work for the United States Coast Guard.


BJORLO Tyra

RECRUITMENT OFFICER
Tyra Bjorlo is from Exmore, Virginia. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minoring in Political Science. In addition to her role as the CIB’s Recruitment Officer, she heads the Organization’s Africa Desk. Tyra’s research focus is on terrorism and armed militancy by non-state actors, with particular emphasis on the role of women in armed Islamist militancy around the world.


RECORDS OFFICER
Michael Gompper is from Beaufort, South Carolina. He is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minoring in History and Criminology. He has been a member of the CIB since his freshman semester in the fall of 2016 and currently heads the organization’s Europe Desk. He has conducted extensive research on relations between Britain, Ireland and the European Union, with particular reference to the Brexit process.


MORINI Marissa

PROJECTS OFFICER
Marissa Morini is from Lexington, South Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. In addition to her role as the CIB’s Projects Officer, she heads the organization’s Middle East Desk, of which she has been a member for several semesters. In her research, Marissa focuses on the Syrian Kurds and their ongoing campaign for autonomy and/or independence.


SCHOLAR Madison

HONORARY EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Madison Scholar is from Marietta, Georgia. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies. Until December 2018, she headed the CIB’s North America Desk, having conducted extensive research on the drug trade in Mexico. Since January 2019 she has been working as a Research Fellow for the Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, where she is conducting research on the security effects of marijuana legalization.


BROPHY Shannon

HONORARY EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Shannon Brophy
is from Anderson, South Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minoring in Global Studies. Until December 2018, Shannon led the CIB’s Middle East Desk, of which she has been a member since her freshman semester in fall 2016. In fall 2018 she was awarded an internship with the Department of State’s Regional Security Office at the US Embassy in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.


FITSANAKIS Joseph

FACULTY MENTOR
Dr. Joseph Fitsanakis is Associate Professor of Politics in the Intelligence and National Security Studies program at Coastal Carolina University. Prior to his current role, he was Director of the Security and Intelligence Studies program at King University. Dr. Fitsanakis specializes in communications interception, human intelligence collection and intelligence tradecraft, and has been teaching courses on these topics for over a decade.

CONNOR KILGORE, from Leesport, PA, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Global Studies. He headed the CIB’s Asia Desk with a focus on energy, was a Solar Ambassador and a member of WINS and the National Security Club.

KATELYN MONTRIEF, from Fredericksburg, VA, is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies with a double minor in History and Criminology. At CIB she focused on the Middle East and was a member of WINS and the National Security Club.

NOWLIN Madison

 

Chief Financial Officer and other positions (2016-2018)
MADISON NOWLIN is from Concord, NC. At the CIB she specialized in Islamist radicalism in Russia and headed the Russia Desk. Madison was also Chairwoman of the National Security Club.

 

Communications Officer (2017-2018)
ALLISON REILLY, from Columbia, SC, is majoring in Intelligence and National Security and Political Science. She headed the CIB’s Africa Desk and served as Vice President of WINS and as Chairwoman of the Finance Committee for the CCU SGA.

 

Records Officer (2017-2018)
ERIC WINTER is a sophomore from Greenville, SC, majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies and Information Systems at Coastal Carolina University. He focused on cyber security and has also carried out research on Southeast Asia.

 

Quality Assurance Officer (2017-2018)
BELLE GRIGGS, from Wallace, SC, is double-majoring in Intelligence and National Security and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. She headed the CIB’s Americas desk where she focused on Colombia.

KAYLA “ACE” CHAMBERS, from Chapin, SC, majored in Psychology. She headed the CIB’s Europe Desk, where she focused on Western Europe and the Baltic region. She has also authored and published research on French politics.

MALLON Casey

 

Executive Director (2017-2018)
CASEY MALLON, from Myrtle Beach, SC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies (with a Middle East focus) and Politics, and minored in Statistics, Religious Studies, and Geographical Information Systems. At CIB she focused on Southeast Asia.

GUTBERLET Blake

BLAKE GUTBERLET, from Hickory, NC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Psychology. He focused on interrogation techniques, military weapons capabilities, and counterinsurgency with an emphasis on Boko Haram.

LEE Jeremy

 

Chief Operations Officer (2016-2017)
JEREMY LEE, from Geneva, IL, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies at CCU. He headed the CIB’s Eastern/Southern Europe Desk, where he specialized in the European Union with an emphasis on European security issues.

VICTORIA JAMES, from Biloxi, MS, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies. She headed the CIB’s Middle East Section, where she focused on WMD and CBRN proliferation. She also served as President of Women in Intelligence and National Security.

JONES Michael

 

Quality Assurance Officer (2016-2017)
MICHAEL JONES, from North Charleston, SC, majored in History and minored in Intelligence and Security Studies and Military Science. He headed the CIB’s Asia/Eurasia Section, where he studied Central Asia and international terrorism.

EVANS Diana

DIANA EVANS, from Cape Cod, MA, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Geographic Information Systems. Her interests include terrorism, espionage, geospatial intelligence and domestic terrorism.

HAAG Ryan

RYAN HAAG, from Frederick, MD, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies with a minor in Geographic Information Systems. His interests include human intelligence, geospatial intelligence, and psychological operations.

JOSHUA MGRDECHIAN, from Myrtle Beach, SC, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. His interests lie in law enforcement, surveillance and security practices. He specializes in border security.
