The CIB analytical desks are led by an Executive Team of officers, who, in addition to their analytical tasks, are in charge of steering the organization. Current and former CIB officers are listed below.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Lilyanne Sweat is a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with minors in Russian and Arabic. Prior to serving as the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Executive Director, Lily served as the Special Initiatives Officer and Head of the Americas Desk. Additionally, Lily has served as a Director, Quality Control Officer, and Senior Analyst for CIB’s Applied Intelligence Project. Outside of CIB, Lily is the Vice President of Finance for WINS, Deputy Controller of the Intelligence Operations Command Center, and a CCU tour guide.

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER
Brandon Macallair
is a senior from Annapolis, Maryland, majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with a minor in Communication. He currently leads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Transnational Desk and was previously the head of the Middle East Desk. Brandon has been involved in the CIB Applied Intelligence Project for four semesters and is now entering his second year as a Special Security Officer for the Intelligence Operations Command Center. In addition, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Weekly Intelligence Brief.

COUNTERINTELLIGENCE OFFICER
Connor Ellinghaus
is a junior from Virginia. He is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with minors in Cybersecurity and Peace and Conflict Studies. He heads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Africa desk, where he has spent two semesters following political instability and violence in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. He also has prior tenure at the Americas Desk, researching China’s Belt and Road Initiative and its effects in Latin America. He is an associate editor for the Weekly Intelligence Brief and was a Deputy Director for the CIB Applied Intelligence Project‘s CMC DELTA in Spring 2025. Outside of the CIB, he is the Vice President for the International Association For Intelligence Education’s Zeta Chapter.

LOGISTICS OFFICER
Lex Martin
is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies, and minoring in Military Science. He leads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Europe Desk, where he focuses on the Russo-Ukrainian war. Outside of the CIB, Lex is a Military Police Officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard and is enrolled in Coastal Carolina University’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program.

FINANCE OFFICER
Jack Goldberg
is a sophomore from York, Maine. He is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies. He leads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Americas Desk. He covers United States relations in the Middle East and previously covered Sudan and South Sudan at the Africa Desk. He previously worked as a Special Security Officer for the Intelligence Operations Command Center. He has also served as a Senior Analyst and Deputy Director in the CIB’s Applied Intelligence Project.

RECORDS OFFICER
Ryan Kelly
is a junior from Fairfax, Virginia, majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. He leads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Asia Desk and was an Analyst at the Middle East desk for his first four semesters at Coastal Carolina. He has served the CIB as a Support Officer, Deputy Director, and more recently Director for the Applied Intelligence Project. He also has participated in CCU clubs such as WINS, Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis and Research, and the International Association For Intelligence Education.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER
Matthew Petersen
is a sophomore from Austin, Texas. He is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with a minor in Russian and Eurasian Studies. He heads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Russia desk, where he analyzes Russo-Balkan relations. He previously attended the CIB Europe desk, where he studied Inter-Balkan relations. He is an Associate Editor for the Weekly Intelligence Brief and has served as a Senior Analyst with the Applied Intelligence Project (AIP) for CMC ECHO. As a Support Officer in the AIP, he briefed Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Russian National Language Board.

RECRUITMENT OFFICER
Savannah Bennett
is a junior from Perryville, Maryland. She is majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies with minors in Middle Eastern Studies, Data Analytics for Intelligence and Security, and Marketing. She heads the Middle East desk and analyzes the Palestinian political factions allied with Hamas. She has participated in the Applied Intelligence Project as a Senior Analyst for Critical Mission Center ECHO. Outside the CIB, Savannah is the Executive Assistant for the Center for Applied Intelligence at CCU and a member of the Zeta Zeta Chapter of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, where she holds the position of Greek Week Chairwoman.

LOGISTICS OFFICER
Preston Martz
is from Western Pennsylvania. He is double-majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies and Political Science. He is serving as the Head of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s China Desk, where he has spent several semesters focusing on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and China/United States relations. He served as a Director for the Applied Intelligence Project in spring 2025, a Deputy Director in fall 2024, and a Senior Analyst in spring 2024. Outside the CIB, Preston works on campus as a Peer Leader and an Academic Advising Student Assistant.

SPECIAL INITIATIVES OFFICER
Alexa Cannella
is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She is majoring in Intelligence and National Security Studies with a concentration in Psychology. She leads the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Cyber Security desk, where she has analyzed Chinese military cyber tactics for several semesters. She is serving as a Support Officer for the Applied Intelligence Project for Critical Mission Center KILO and has been selected to serve as an Officer in the United States Navy. Outside of CIB, Alexa studies aeronautical science to earn her pilot wings.


FACULTY MENTOR
Dr. Joseph Fitsanakis is Professor of Security and Intelligence Studies at Coastal Carolina University, where he teaches courses in intelligence communications, intelligence operations, human intelligence, national security, and other subjects. He specializes in communications interception, human and cyber intelligence collection, and intelligence tradecraft, among other topics. Prior to his current role, he was Director of the Security and Intelligence Studies program at King University.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (2022-2024)
Tessa Bentley is a senior from Hendersonville, Tennessee. She double-majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and Psychology and minored in Chemistry and Data Analytics. She was the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Executive Director for two years and previously served as the Recruitment officer and Head of the Middle East Desk. Additionally, Tessa served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Weekly Intelligence Brief. Outside of CIB, Tessa was a Special Security Officer for the Intelligence Operations Command Center and a tutor for the Intelligence and Security Studies Department at CCU.

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER (2023-2024)
Richard Limon is from a small town in Sussex County, New Jersey. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies with a Middle Eastern Studies minor as well as a History minor. In the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, Richard served as the Recruitment Officer as well as the Head of the Africa Desk. He was previously a Senior Analyst for both Critical Mission Centers DELTA and WHISKEY, and is a second-year Resident Adviser.

COUNTERINTELLIGENCE OFFICER (2023-2024)
Aubrey Belanger is a from Greer, South Carolina. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Peace and Conflict Studies. In the CIB he focused on Libyan security affairs at the CIB Africa Desk. She also served as Associate Editor for the Weekly Intelligence Brief and was a Special Security Officer for the Intelligence Operations Command Center. She also previously served as a Senior Analyst in the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Applied Intelligence Project for Critical Mission Centers DELTA and WHISKEY.

Jordan Maple
is from Indian Land, South Carolina. He majored in Intelligence and National Security with a minor in History. He led the Cyber/Transnational desk of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, where he previously covered Wall Street, economic policy, and international markets. He was an associate editor for the Weekly Intelligence Brief and previously was a senior analyst for the CIB’s applied intelligence project’s Critical Mission Center YANKEE. In addition to his CIB activity, he served as an ambassador for the International Association For Intelligence Education‘s Zeta Chapter.

Mason Marlowe
is from Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies, with minors in Military Science and Russian/Eurasian Studies. He led the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Asia Desk. Outside the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, Mason was a member of Coastal Carolina University’s ROTC. He competed on the Ranger Challenge Team and was a member of the Benavidez Club.

Madison Conway
is from Central Pennsylvania. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minored in Communications. She served as the Head of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s China Desk where she spent prior semesters focusing on Chinese foreign affairs in Africa. She served as a Senior Analyst for the Applied Intelligence Project’s Critical Mission Center FOXTROT in the Spring 2024 semester, for which she received the Support Excellence award. Outside of the CIB, Madison was sa member of the CCU Women’s Club Lacrosse team and worked as a Resident Advisor.

MARKARIS Sarantis

Sarantis Markaris
is from Columbia, Maryland. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minored in Peace and Conflict Studies. He served as the Head of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Europe Desk, of which he was a longtime member. He has focused on trends and developments regarding Greece-Türkiye relations in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, as well as on migration in Europe. He served as a Senior Analyst for the Applied Intelligence Project’s Critical Mission Center (CMC) WHISKEY in the Fall 2023 semester.

MASON Sierra

FINANCE OFFICER (2021-2023)
Sierra Mason is from Bedford, Virginia. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies with minors in Criminology, Cybersecurity, and Peace/Conflict Studies. Sierra led the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Europe Desk and is an associate editor for the Weekly Intelligence Brief. Outside of the CIB, Sierra served on the executive boards of Women in National Security (WINS) and the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE). Additionally, Sierra was a Peer Leader for the Wall College of Business at Coastal Carolina University.

Jaime Fleming is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minor3d in Criminology. Jaime led the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s China Desk and focused her studies on the militarization of the Indo-Pacific region. Jaime previously served as co-deputy of the Transnational and Cyber Desk, where she covered global developments in women’s rights. Outside of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, Jaime was the Team Lead for the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis and Research Report (CLEAR), the Recruitment Officer for Women in Intelligence and National Security (WINS), and a Peer Leader for the Edwards College.

TSIANTOULAS McKenzie

McKenzie Tsiantoulas
is from a small town south of Boston, Massachusetts. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and double-minored in Geographic Information Systems and Peace and Conflict Studies. She participated in the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Applied Intelligence Internship as the Director of Team WHISKEY for two consecutive semesters, during which she was able to brief intelligence officials from several United States intelligence agencies. Tsiantoulas served as the Head of the CIB’s Russia Desk.

Brendan Valcone
is from Stony Brook, New York. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minored in Geographic Information Systems. He served as the Head of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Transnational and Cyber Desk, of which was a longtime member. He focused on trends and developments within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As a sophomore, he served as a Senior Analyst for the Applied Intelligence Project’s Critical Mission Center (CMC) Yankee in the Spring 2022 semester, for which he received the best Current Intelligence Project Award.

Lukas Delaney is from St. Mary’s County, Maryland. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and double-minored in Political Science and Peace and Conflict Studies. Prior to serving as Director, Lukas served as the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s External Relations Officer, the Head of Desk for the Asia Desk, and Senior Analyst for the Europe Desk. He researched topics such as developments in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, popular unrest in Kazakhstan, the status of the Lebanese Hezbollah, political extremism in Germany, and organized crime in Bulgaria. He also served as Editor-in-Chief for the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Weekly Intelligence Brief.

Counterintelligence Officer and other posts (2021-2023)
Sophie Sherwood is from Clarksville, Virginia. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minored in Environmental Science and Art History. Sophie headed the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s China Desk and focused her scholarly research on several topics, including the growth of the Chinese renewable energy sector. She also headed the organization’s Special Topics Desk for several semesters. She is also a founding member of Coastal Carolina University Edward College’s First-Generation College Student Advisory Council, and worked as a Residential Adviser.

FREYLAND Ryan

Records Officer (2022-2023)
Ryan Freyland majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies with minors in Military Science and Peace and Conflict Studies. As a military brat, Ryan has lived all over the world, with most of his life spent in South Korea and Germany. Ryan’s specialty is Asian studies with an emphasis on Northeast Asia. He served as the Head of Asia Desk. Ryan also served on the executive council of the Coastal Carolina University’s chapter of the International Association for Intelligence Education, and was a member of the Women in Intelligence and National Security organization.

Abigail McClean is from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and double minored in Cyber Security and Religious Studies. Within the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, she headed the Transnational and Cyber Desk and served as the Logistics Officer. In her eight semesters with the CIB, she studied far-right groups in Germany and the United States.

Kristian Nesheim
is from the outskirts of Washington, DC. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minored in Geographic Information Systems. He served as Head of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Africa Desk, of which he was been a longtime member and prior deputy head of desk. He was also a member of Women in Intelligence and National Security and a Peer Mentor for incoming Freshmen. Kristian co-authoring a research paper with Dr. Matthew Cobb, titled “Chinese Development Assistance and the Political Economy of Sovereign Debt Restructuring”, which was presented at the 2022 International Studies Association conference.

Ana Maria  Lankford
is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies, while also minoring in Criminology and Spanish. Before assuming the role of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Executive Director, she headed the organization’s Asia Desk. Ana Maria also served on the executive board for the National Security Club (NSC) and the Women in Intelligence and National Security (WINS) at Coastal Carolina University. Her research on the topic of intelligence and the COVID-19 pandemic, was published in the journal Frontiers in Communication.

Hannah Clegg
majored in Intelligence and Security Studies with minors in Russian and Eurasian Studies, as well as in Middle East Studies. She headed the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Russia Desk, in addition to serving as the Editor-in-chief of the Weekly Intelligence Brief. Outside of the CIB, Hannah was an executive of Women in Intelligence and National Security (WINS) and a research fellow with the Edwards College of Humanities. Hannah has been published twice in the European Intelligence Academy’s Intelligence Review journal and has interned at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the US Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman.

DANZEK Piper

Finance Officer (2020-2022)
Piper Danzek pursued a degree in Intelligence and Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University, with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. Piper focused the majority of her studies on the bilateral relations between the United States and Israel. Within the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, she headed the Europe Desk and served as the Chief Financial Officer. Outside of the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, she was the President of Women in Intelligence and National Security (WINS), as well as a Peer Leader for the Edwards College at Coastal Carolina University.

VIATOR Jake

Records Officer (2021-2022)
Jake Viator is from Gainesville, Virginia. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and minoring in Geographic Information Systems at Coastal Carolina University. At the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, Jake headed the North America Desk, and has previously served as External Relations Officer, while also heading the organization’s Middle East Desk. He focused his research on the evolution and current status of the Popular Mobilization Forces, a primarily Shiite paramilitary force in Iraq. Jake was also featured on the fourth episode of the CIB COVID-19 Intelligence Project.

HOEHN Gabe

Special Initiatives Officer (2022)
Gabriel Hoehn is from Baltimore, Maryland. He was double-majoring in Intelligence and Security Studies, as well as Language and Intercultural Studies. Gabriel headed the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Russia Desk, and was previously Deputy Head of the Middle East desk, focusing on the Yemen War. Additionally, Gabriel was a senior analyst in the Applied Intelligence Project’s Yankee Critical Mission Center, which received the best Current Intelligence Product Award for the Spring 2022 semester.

ATAALLA Sandra

Recruitment Officer (2021-2022)
Sandra Ataalla is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and double-minored in Cybersecurity and Geographical Information Systems. In addition to her executive position at the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, Sandra was a longtime member of the organization’s Middle East desk, where she focused on water politics and political stability in Egypt. She was also featured on the fourth episode of the CIB’s COVID-19 Intelligence Project, where she discussed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on political stability in Egypt.

GOTT Jared

Logistics Officer and other positions (2021-2022)
Jared Gott is from Maryland. He majored in Intelligence and Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. At the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief, he headed the Africa Desk. Jared specialized in French military operations on the continent of Africa, focusing on the Sahel region, with particular focus on Mali and Niger. Jared was also the Vice-President of the Women In Intelligence and National Security (WINS) organization at Coastal Carolina University.

Special Initiatives Officer and other positions (2019-2021)
Hannah Crumpton is from Greenville, South Carolina. She majored in Intelligence and Security Studies and double-minored in Psychology and Religious Studies. She led the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief’s Latin American desk, and specialized in relations between Latin America and Africa, particularly concerning illicit narcotics trafficking. She also headed the CIB’s Africa desk where she specialized on the stability of the Sudanese government. During her first year at CCU, as a member of the CIB’s Special Topics Desk, she focused on COVID-19 and its effects on food security, and published her research in the European Intelligence Academy’s Intelligence Review. Hannah was also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research group (CLEAR), where she served as Chief of the Exercise Training Analysis Team. Hannah was awarded the CIB Achievement Award in the fall of 2021.

HAUF Jackson

Executive Director (2020-2021)
Jackson Hauf is a junior from Maryland. At Coastal Carolina University he double-majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies, as well as in Language and Intercultural Studies. His academic focus was the German and Russian languages. In the CIB he headed the organization’s Special Topics and Russia Desks. Jackson’s analytical research concerned the bilateral relations between Russia and the United States. Jackson was awarded the CIB Achievement Award in the spring of 2021.

STORZIERI Rick 2

Chief Operations Officer and other positions (2018-2021)
Derrick Storzieri is from Bluffton, South Carolina. He was a senior Intelligence and National Security Studies major and an Islamic Studies minor. At the CIB he headed the North America Desk. Derrick specialized in relations between the United States and Mexico, with reference to illicit narcotics trafficking, immigration, and other issues of bilateral concern to the two countries. He was featured on the 5th episode of the CIB Intelligence Report.

HANCOCK Cole

Communications Officer (2020-2021)
Cole Hancock is from Delran, New Jersey. He majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies, and minored in Criminology. He was a member of the South America desk for three years, specializing in paramilitary and rebel groups that operate in the region, with a focus on the National Liberation Army (ELN) in Colombia. He also examined how rebel groups in South America affect relations between Latin American countries. Cole was also a member of the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research Group (CLEAR).

Fabio Μ.
majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minored in Psychology and History. At the CIB he specialized in American-Chinese relations and led the organization’s Asia Desk. Fabio was also a member of the National Security Club, Chinese Club and the Coastal Law Enforcement Analysis Research group (CLEAR). He served as CIB director from 2018 to 2020.

BROSSARD Kyle

Head, Special Topics Desk (2018-2010)
Kyle Brossard, from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, transferred to Coastal Carolina University from Marion Military Institute, and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Intelligence. While at the CIB, he served as Head of the Special Topics Desk, published his research in The Intelligence Review, and received the Regional Expert Award for the Cyber Desk.

CLARK Alex 2

Chief Operations Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Alex Clark is from Long Island, New York. He studied Intelligence and National Security. In addition to serving as CIB Chief Operations Officer, he headed the organization’s Russia Desk. Alex specialized in the Russian Armed Forces and conducted extensive research on the state and future prospects of the Russian Armed Forces posture and strategy. His work was published in the European Intelligence Academy’s Intelligence Review journal in the spring of 2019.

PRESNELL Kaitlin

Finance Officer (2019-2020)
Kaitlin Presnell is from Johnson City, Tennessee. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and double-minored in Religious Studies and Islamic Studies. She lead the organization’s Africa Desk. She was also a member of the CIB’s Middle East Desk, where she focused her research on the civil war in Yemen. Kaitlin also served as Vice President of Women in Intelligence and National Security and President of Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue Club.

GOMPPER Mike 2

Communications Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Michael Gompper is from Beaufort, South Carolina. He majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in History and Criminology at Coastal Carolina University. He was a member of the CIB since his freshman semester in the fall of 2016, and eventually headed the organization’s Europe Desk. He conducted extensive research on relations between Britain, Ireland and the European Union, with particular reference to the ongoing Brexit process.

CAIN Joseph 2

Records Officer and other positions (2018-2020)
Joseph Cain , from Springfield, KY, majored in Intelligence and National Security studies and minored in Pre-law and Spanish. He specialized in US-Cuba relations. In addition to his executive duties at the CIB, Joseph headed the organization’s Latin America Desk. He was also a member of the Chanticleer Law Enforcement Analysis Report (CLEAR) and the National Security Club.

Counterintelligence Officer and other positions (2017-2020)
Shannon Brophy is from Anderson, South Carolina. She majored in Language and Intercultural Studies. Shannon was been a member of the CIB since her freshman semester in the fall of 2016, and headed the organization’s Middle East Desk. In fall 2018, Shannon was awarded an internship with the United States Department of State’s Regional Security Office at the US Embassy in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

MORINI Marissa

Projects Officer (2019)
Marissa Morini is from Lexington, South Carolina. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies at Coastal Carolina University. In addition to her role as the CIB’s Projects Officer, she headed the organization’s Middle East Desk, of which she was a member for several semesters. In her research, Marissa focused on the Syrian Kurds and their ongoing campaign for autonomy and/or independence.

SCHOLAR Madison

Honorary Executive Officer and other positions (2018-2019)
Madison Scholar is from Marietta, Georgia. She majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies. Until December 2018, she headed the CIB’s North America Desk, having conducted extensive research on the drug trade in Mexico. In the spring 2019 semester she worked as a Research Fellow for the Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, where she conducted research on the security effects of marijuana legalization. 

KILGORE Connor

Executive Director and other positions (2016-2018)
CONNOR KILGORE, from Leesport, PA, majored in Intelligence and National Security Studies and minored in Global Studies. He headed the CIB’s Asia Desk with a focus on energy, was a Solar Ambassador and a member of WINS and the National Security Club.
