In January 2022, the Chanticleer Intelligence Brief (CIB) at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) launched the Applied Intelligence Project (AIP) and Internship. This competitive program offers a hands-on experience that places CIB members in an intelligence collection setting, in support of critical-mission objectives. This semester-long activity takes place in CCU’s state-of-the-art Intelligence Operations Command Center (IOCC), which is located in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Each semester, between two and six interns serve as AIP Critical Mission Center (CMC) Directors, with each of them overseeing the work of several AIP Support Officers. These teams are tasked by government agencies with collecting critical information on crises and hot spots around the world as they emerge, in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.

What position are you applying for? Those applying for Critical Mission Center (CMC) Directors (i.e. interns) are required to have already served as CMC Support Officers in at least one prior semester. CMC Support Officers are participating in this project as volunteers, with the ability to be selected as interns (CMC Directors) in a future semester (CMC Directors are selected from the ranks of current/prior CMC Support Officers). Keep in mind that, if you apply to be CMC Director, and you don’t get the position, you may be offered a place as a CMC Support Officer instead.

If you are applying for the position of CMC Director, you must be available and able to be present in the Intelligence Operations Center on Tuesdays from 4:30 until 5:45 p.m. Support Officers are not required to be present on those days, so long as they do the work in the background.
