An elite team of CIB Senior Analysts traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia, where they briefed officials from the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC). Founded in 1994, NGIC is part of the United States Army’s Intelligence and Security Command. It provides commanders and decision-makers timely scientific and technical intelligence, as well as general military intelligence, on foreign ground forces.
For the entirety of the spring 2024 semester, the CIB’s Applied Intelligence Project studied a research topic that was assigned by NGIC. The research topic focused on the unconventional use of armed forces for domestic purposes by various governments in Latin America. Separated into two groups, the Applied Intelligence Project Senior Analysts gathered data from over a dozen countries in Latin America and established patterns of use of military forces throughout the continent.
Following the presentation, one member of the audience said he was told by an analyst from a three-letter agency that they “did not know that CCU had a grad program for intel.” They were stunned when the member of the audience informed them that the presenters were in fact undergraduate students!
The CIB wishes to thank wholeheartedly the NGIC leadership for its hospitality, with special thanks to NGIC’s Latin America desk. We are grateful for NGIC employees K.B. and J.C. for facilitating this fruitful exchange. A printed version of the CIB team’s intelligence product will be produced in late summer 2024.
