CIB students receive college-wide recognition

Edwards College student awardsSeveral Chanticleer Intelligence Brief members were among students recognized last week in a special ceremony held by the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. The event, the Edwards College Student Achievement Awards, was held to honor outstanding students and celebrate their accomplishments during the 2016-2017 academic year. It was a new event, held for the first time this year, with students and faculty representing every department in the Edwards College.

The CIB’s Finance Officer, Casey Mallon, was honored as the Outstanding Junior by the Department of Politics. The Department also honored the CIB’s Records Officer, Madison Nowling, and the head of the CIB’s Middle East Section, Shannon Brophy, as the Outstanding Sophomore and Outstanding Freshman respectively.

The Department of History honored CIB Quality Assurance Officer Michael Jones with the James Branham Award, which is given annually to a student who demonstrates academic excellence, a record of service and a scholarly agenda outside the regular curricular requirements. Julie Emory, an analyst in the CIB’s Asia Section, received the Christopher Waddell Faculty and Alumni Scholarship, given in honor of the late Christopher Waddell (CCU class of 2012) and his brother, the late Miles Waddell.

The Edwards College also recognized CIB member Stosh Hess, who was endorsed by the CIB this semester in his successful senatorial run for the Student Government Association, for his work as an Edwards College Research Fellow representing the Intelligence and National Security Studies program.

The CIB congratulates its officers, analysts and members for their recognition and wishes them a successful future.
